Question: When were the first filters delivered to the villages?
Answer:The first Grant was for $25,000 and supplied 500 $50 Filter Systems to extremely poor people in January, 2007. The Grant closed a month later.
Question: How did you choose the areas to serve?
Answer: We left this up to the Rotary Club in Guatemala. The first area we served was about 3 hours from the Rotary Club in Guatemala City. As a result they used a local charity to choose the recipients. They also educate the people on maintenance and will help with the follow up.

Question: What happens when the filters have to be replaced after two years?
Answer: We have advised the recipients that they must save for the replacements which cost $36.
Question: Is this a good price for the filter replacements?
Answer; Absolutely. The manufacturer, British Berkefeld, offers these to our Guatemala wholesaler at a very low price because it is treated as a humanitarian discount. They are available for $20 and Rotary gets them at a volume discount price of $18 which includes S/H.
This compares to a price of $39.95 for one filter plus S/H in the U.S.
Question: What areas have you served?
Answer: We have been serving villages in the Solola area which is near Lake Atitlan. We also will be supplying filters to Ak Tenamit, which is near Lake Izabal
